White Pine
- Can grow up to 80' - 110'
- Ability to age up to 450 yrs old
- Large, long cones and five needles per cluster
- Prefers well-drained soils and a cool, humid climate
White Spruce
- Large tree with narrow crown
- Twigs have no hairs
- Shallow rooted so can be easily blown over
- Bark thin and peels easily
- Cones are slender and scaly
- Can grow up to 40 meters in height and 1 meter in diameter
- Grows well on loam and clay, rather poorly on sandy soil
Red Pine
- Tall, straight growth
- Self pruning
- There tend not to be dead beanches on the trees

Norway Spruce
- Leaves are needle like,single not in clusters and shiny green in colour
- Cones are scaly with wings
- Bark thick with scales

- Can tolerate a great deal of cold, winter weather
- Grows well in a variety of moist soils in temperate habitats that are humid and cool
Catalpa

- Narrow, open, irregular crown, spreading branches
- Leaf up to 12"; yellow to brown fall colour
- Grows bell shaped flowers with long fruit
- Very brittle wood; grows 40' - 70' tall and 20' - 40' wide
- Sun to partial shade; prefers moist, well drained soil
Honey Locust (Thornless)
- Lives about 120 years
- Long twisted fruit pod can be up to 50 centimetres long
- Broad, flat leaves, leaflets short
- Fruit in a pod or capsul
- Grows 50' - 80' in height
- Thrives in moist soil and with lots of sun
Caragana
- Decidious shrub
- Can grow up to 20'
- Flowers in May and the seeds ripen in September
- Pollinated by bees
- Noted for attracting wildlife
- Prefers light or medium-light soil
- Cannot grow in shade
- Frost tender
Jack Pine

- Smallest of the three native pines
- Needles in clusters of two
- Short needles and small cones
- Can grow up to 100'
- Can live up to 200 years old
- Usually grows in dry, acidic soil
- One of the least shade-tolerant trees in its native range
Planting Instructions
Honey Locust
Preparation is required. Before planting the seeds, soak them in a cup of boiling water. Let the seeds soak in water for 24 to 36 hours, after that the seeds will be ready to plant. Plant seeds ¼” inch deep. Water and place in a sunny spot. Cover with plastic wrap until seeds sprout. Water the seedlings once weekly. Transplant outside when sprouts are about 4” tall.
